However they’re unfriendly towards us to the point where war could break out at any time, won’t accept an embassy, and will not accept any deal unless we give them 50 times what they give us.” As far as we know, they love everything about us. Not to mention “We have the highest level of intel possible about this nation. This has happened 4 times now.” is the AI being fine. I don’t really think “Norway declares war on me every 50 turns, their army is a joke so I take one of their cities and then return it in the peace deal in exchange for all their money, all their income, all their resources and all their great works. If it improves with expansions as much as Civ V did then in 2-3 years it might easily be the best game in the series. However, it’s still much more complete than Civ V was at launch and has nearly every feature from Civ V’s expansion packs as well… nearly every aspect of the game has been improved or expanded on in some way. The removal of the World Congress and Diplomatic Victory is a shame, especially considering how much they expanded on city-states and how much better/more transparent diplomacy has the potential to be once the AI is ironed a little. But I bet both of those things will be tweaked in patches over the next couple months. I’ve also seen some really weird stuff with the combat AI. I keep finding myself in situations where I know both agendas, the overwhelming majority of the specific attitude modifiers are positive, but they’re still unfriendly to me and won’t take any deals that aren’t massively one-sided in their favour. Yeah, the AI definitely needs some work in diplomacy. Tl dr, good looking game and the systems work really well for humans, but dammit when are we going to see some REAL AI improvements, instead of things like harder difficulty just gives the AI stat/money/happy boosts, but having them play just the same stupidly braindead way as the last 20 years. In fact in some ways you could argue it has gotten worst, as the systems have become more complicated/intertwined and the AI just hasn’t improved at all. Still completely brain dead stupid, declaring war for no reason, sueing for peace next turn, not understanding its own money systems and being constantly bankrupt, not understanding its own map and military units (what, your charging my city again with your siege stuff all alone, yep good idea, again), and on and on. I really am looking forward to a real step forward in AI, to me it seriously feels like the AI has gone no-where for years, the AI in the latest Civ in 2016 feels really no different to the first Civ in 1991 (25 freaking years ago). So many games that are sequels of sequels (Civ series and Total War as two examples), the AI is still just so rubbish, the same as it was 15-20 years ago.īack then I could forgive it as it was a new genre and low power PC’s, but seriously there feels like there has been zero improvement in AI in that regard at all. I wish someone could make the next great step and actually code GOOD AI. Only thing I’m not a huge fan of atm is how diplomacy with other civs works, seems like 90% hate me just for not being them…
